Effects of Cytochalasin B and Colchicine on the Arrangement of Cytoskeleton in Cultured Human Keratinocytes - A Double Immunofluorescence Microscopic Study -
Wen-Lin Lo, S. Inoue, Y. Kitajima
Dermatol Sinica 3: 213-222, 1985

The cytoskeleton includes microtubules, microfilaments, and intermediate filaments. The type of intermediate filaments contained in the keratinocytes is keratin filaments, of which the organization, distribution, and interrelations with other cytoskeleton remain obscure. In this experiment, cultured human keratinocytes were treated with microfilament inhibitor cytochalasin B/40 ug/ml for one hour. Double immunofluorescence microscopic study with antikeratin and antitubulin showed that the origin ..................More
The Experience of Primary Tissue Culture of Fibroblast Isolated from the Human Scar Tissue
Mei-Yue Huang, Chung-Hsing Lee
Dermatol Sinica 3: 275-280, 1985

MCDB 153 medium was designed by Dr. Peehl and Dr. Ham in 1979 especially for culturing keratinocytes and fibroblasts of human skin. Without adding FGF (Fibroblast Growth Factor) we sucessfully cultured the fibroblasts isolated from human scar by the use of powdered form of MCDB 153 medium. ..................More

Dominant Epidermolysis Bullosa Dystrophica (Cockayne-Touraine) - A Report of a Three Generation Family with Four Cases
Li-Shin Chang
Dermatol Sinica 3: 223-230, 1985

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is group of genetic disorders of the skin characterized by formation of blisters following minor trauma. There are at least sixteen different types of EB. In this article, I report a family with four patients in three successive generations with EB. Blisters, hypertrophic scars, milia, nail dystrophy and loss were present in their lower extremities since their childhood. The skin biopsy from blister predilection site of left lateral shin of the 28-year-old patient in t ..................More
Solitary Glomus Tumor - Histopathological and Electron Microscopical Studies
Chang-Lin Chen, Wen-Lin Lo, Wen-Jen Wang
Dermatol Sinica 3: 231-236, 1985

A 78-year-old male patient noted a bluish painful subcutaneous nodule over the medial aspect of the left knee five years ago. The tender mass was excised. Light microscopic studies revealed typical histopathology of glomus tumor of the solitary type. Electron microscopic studies confirmed that the glomus cells had the characteristics of modified smooth-muscle cells such as intracytoplasmic myofibrils, pinocytotic vesicles, dense bodies and attachment bodies which were surrounded by basal lamina. ..................More
Dermal Lymphocytic Infiltration Mimic B-Cell Lymphoma - A Case Report
Kim-Geok Siew, Shiou-Hwa Jee, Yung-Fa Chao
Dermatol Sinica 3: 237-240, 1985

A 8-year-old girl has suffered from episodic attacks of papular wheal-like lesions over the face, arms and legs since the age of three. Fever(up to 39℃) was noted as crops of new lesions appeared. Skin biopsy showed monomorphous lymphoblastic infiltration. Laboratory and immunofluorescence studies showed that B lymphocytes were involved in the process. Besides, a benign clinical course was noted. This dermal lymphocytic infiltration mimic B-cell lymphoma was diagnosed. ..................More
  Mucormycosis - A Case Report
Huan-Chang Hsu, Wei-Min Li
Dermatol Sinica 3: 241-248, 1985

Mucormycosis is a rare, but often rapidly fatal infection; It is encountered in patient with diabetes mellitus, as well as immunocompromised diseases. We report a fatal case of rhino-orbital cerebral mucorymycosis associated with diabetes mellitus. This patient had typical rapidly progressive clinical symptoms and signs as: eye pain, ophthalmoplegia, blindness, black eschar on the face, black necrosis of the palate and depressive consciousness. Repeated brain CT scans revealed extensive destruc ..................More
  Cutaneous Ciliated Cyst
Li-Na Kao, Peng-Chih Yang, Tseng-Tang Kuo, Yue-Zon Kuan
Dermatol Sinica 3: 249-252, 1985

We report a case of cutaneous ciliated cyst which occurred on the right leg of a 34-year-old female patient. The histopathology showed a intradermal cystic space lined by simple cuboid ciliated epithelium or pseudstratified columnar epithelium. The term of cutaneous ciliated cyst was used in this paper because of Farmet's first description of cutaneous ciliated cysts. To our knowledge, this is the first case report in Taiwan. The related literatures are reviewed and its pathogenesis is discussed. ..................More
Punctate Keratosis of Palms and Soles
Guan-Shyan Lin, Wei-Min Li
Dermatol Sinica 3: 253-258, 1985

Punctate keratosis of palms and soles is a uncommon skin disease. It is less common in Caucasian than in blacks and rather rare in Orientals. We reported a case of 61-year-old male patient clinically with numerous, small, hard, discrete, yellownish to brownish, keratotic papules over the palms and soles. There is a family history including his mother, young sister, elder son and the elder son & elder grandson of his young sister. Finally, we discussed some relative conditions and associated dise ..................More
Lichen Nitidus - A Case Report
Hsiang-An Lei, Wen-Jen Wang
Dermatol Sinica 3: 259-262, 1985

Lichen nitidus is an asymptomatic, comparatively rare chronic eruption characterized by minute, flat or dome-shaped, flesh-colored, shiny papules. The sites of predilection are the genitalia, abdomen, breasts and upper extremities. Chronicity is the rule, but spontaneous clearing may occur. We report a 9-year-old girl with generalized lichen nitidus confirmed by the histopathology. No family history was found. Topical steroid treatment has been ineffective. ..................More
  Ecthyma Gangrenosum
Chen-Nai Wang, Peng-Chih Yang, Yue-Zon Kuan
Dermatol Sinica 3: 263-268, 1985

Ecthyma gangrenosum which forms a gangrenous ulcer over surrounding erythematous halo base with a gray-black eschar, is a specific entity virtually pathognomonic of pseudomonas septicemia. Here, we presented a case of epidermal type of Stevens-Johnson syndrome who got generalized pseudomonas infection during hospitalization. Ecthyma gangrenosum was the first sign of the pseudomonas infection of the patient. ..................More
Solitary Angioleiomyoma - A Case Report
Tsing-Hua Yao, Hsin-Su Yu, Ho-Ming Tseng, Tsu-Chieh Shen, Chung-Ho Chien
Dermatol Sinica 3: 269-274, 1985

Angioleiomyoma is a rare intra- or subcutaneous benign tumor. It usually occurs at lower extremities of middle-aged female. Tenderness is one of its specific clinical characters. Now we present a 52-year-old male patient with a bluish tender nodule at the lateral surface of his right foot which makes him experience a painful sensation especially during the change of weather or at night. Histological examination shows there is a well encapsulated solid mass consisting of predominantly solid muscl ..................More
