Hong-Shang Hong, Yu-Shung Lee, Lih-Jen Yang, Heng-Leong Chan
Dermatol Sinica 9: 175-182, 1991

The purpose of this study is to identify the presence of anti-Golgi apparatus antibody (AGA). During routine indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) test for detecting autoantibodies using HEp-2 cells as substrate in the sera of patients associated with autoimmune diseases, there were two sera from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) reacted to Golgi apparatus. To confirm the presence of AGA, we performd immuno-elec-tron microscopy (IEM), and both sera reacted with cytoplasmic antigen located in G ..................More
Herpes Zoster - Clinical Analysis of 780 Inpatients
Hsin-Yi Su, Yang-Jyh Lin, Hsiu-Chin Chen
Dermatol Sinica 9: 183-192, 1991

We review the records of 780 inpatients with herpes zoster seen over a seven-year period. The influence of sex, age and season on the incidence of herpes zoster, incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia and related disorders are reported. The most common sites of lesions are the thoracic dermatomes (36.4%). Cutaneous dissemination were found in 13 cases (1.7%). Post-herpetic neuralgia occur in 34.1% of cases, its incidence did not vary between the sexes or dermatomes, but high incidence was found wi ..................More

Verrucous Hemangioma - A Case Report
Chih-Tei Chiang, Ji-Chen Ho, Shih-Yueh Chen, Heng-Leong Chan
Dermatol Sinica 9: 193-198, 1991

A 17-year-old man was found to have multiple violaceous papules grouped on the right lower leg at birth. The lesions progressively enlarged and became keratotic and verrucous appearance after repeat trauma. Histopathological examination disclosed marked vascular dilatation in the upper dermis, capillary proliferation and dilatation in the dermis and subcutis. Other findings included irregular hyperkeratosis, acanthosis and downward elongation of rete ridges. This is a rare case of verrucous hema ..................More
Atopic Dermatitis Complicated with Erythroderma - Case Report and Its Association with Staphylococcus Aureus Bacteremia
Hus-Tai Liu, Shih-Yueh Chen, Ji-Chen Ho
Dermatol Sinica 9: 199-203, 1991

We report two cases of childhood atopic dermatitis deteriorating to generalized erythroderma. The patients presented with generalized erythema, severe itching, and branny scales. Blood culture grew oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Symptoms of erythema, itching, and scaling subsided completely only after treatment with vancomycin injection. We suggest that bacterial culture of skin and blood should be performed in patients with erythroderma to exclude the possibility of skin infection w ..................More
Reticular Erythematous Mucinosis - A Case Report
Chun-Min Wang, Shih-Yueh Chen
Dermatol Sinica 9: 205-212, 1991

We report a case of reticular erythematous mucinosis. A 49-year-old man suffered from ill-defined erythematous infiltrated plaques located over the back for 4 years, associated with several erythematous, infiltrated patches and papules on the cheek, palms and upper lip. Neitheer systemic symptom nor underlying disease was found, except mild photosenstivity. Histopathology revealed deposition of mucin in the dermis and a mild, perivascular, mononuclear infiltration. Alcian blue and mucicarmine st ..................More
Cutaneous and Subcutaneous Granuloma Annulare - A Case Report and Review of Literature
Kuei-Chu Liu, Hsu-Po Yeh
Dermatol Sinica 9: 213-219, 1991

We report a case of cutaneous and subcutaneous granuloma annulare with classical clinical and histopathological pictures. This case was a 6 years old girl who was found to have several reddish asymptomatic subcutaneous nodules with papules on the overlying skin surface for more than one month. There was no arthritis or other systemic symtoms accompanied. The histopathological examination showed several foci of complete collagen degeneration surrounded by palisading granuloma consisted mainly of ..................More
Cutanous Cartilaginous Tumor - An Additional Case and Literature Review
Ton-Poi Lim,Sheng-Hwa Lee, Sai-Foo Cheng
Dermatol Sinica 9: 221-228, 1991

Cutaneous cartilaginous tumor seems rare in dermatologic literatures. A case was reported for the first time in this island in 1990. We report the second case in Taiwan. The patient was a 20-year-old fe-male who had had a rubbery hard cutaneous nodule measuring 1cm x 1cm, below her left knee for 3 year. Histopathologic examination revealed nodules of mature hyaline cartilaginous tissue in the dermis. Cartilage-containing skin lesions are many. Hsueh and Santa Cruz introduced a simple and convinc ..................More
  Eczema Herpeticum -A Case Report
Jeng-Chung Sheih, Hsiu-Chin Chen
Dermatol Sinica 9: 229-233, 1991

A 6-month-old male infant suffered from erythematous papules and vesicles developing over left cheek, then the rashes spread to the face, neck, trunk and four limbs with fever and cervical lymphadenopathy. Tzanck smear taken from the floor of the vesicle revealed multinucleated giant cells, and type I herpes simplex virus was identified by viral culture. Therefore, he was treated with acyclovir intravenous injection under the impression of eczema herpeticum. ..................More
