Ying-Chin Wu, Yu-Li Liu, Chih-Cheng Chang, Ming-Chien Kao
Dermatol Sinica 10: 1-5, 1992

Argon laser has been widely applied in the treatment of certain cutaneous disorders including many benign pigmented lesions. In this study, we examined the short-term photobiological effects of argon laser irradiation on melanocytes in vitro. Adult human melanocytes cultured at a density of 5×104 cells/cm2(high density condition) or 1×104 cells/cm2(low density condition) in microwell plates were irradiated at various energy densities with argon laser, after which several aspects of cellular bi ..................More
2% Ketoconazole Shampoo in the Treatment of Dandruff and/or Seborrheic Dermatitis of Scalp: A Double Blind Test
Ying-Chin Wu
Dermatol Sinica 10: 17-24, 1992

A double-blind, placebo controlled study was made of 2% ketoconazole shampoo in the treatment of 30 subjects with dandruff and/or seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. Responses were measured by clinicians using clinical gradings, and by the patients using a linear analogue scale. After 4 weeks treatment, scaling and itching of the scalp improved better in those with ketoconazole(11 out of 16; 70%) than in those with placebo(5 out of 14; 36%). Ketoconazole shampooing was effective for this disease ..................More

Angiosarcoma of the Scalp and Face - A Case Report and Literature Review
Wen-Chi Hsueh, Jen-Hong Yang, Han-Nan Liu, Chu-Kwan Wong
Dermatol Sinica 10: 25-33, 1992

We herein report a case of angiosarcoma of the scalp and face. Clinically, indurated nodules and plaquse were found on the left temporal and periauricular region of a 75-year-old male. Histopathologically, there were numerous vascular lumens lined by endothelial cells dissecting collagen bundles in the dermis. These endothelial cells were Factor VIII-R Ag and UEA-1 positive. In electron microscopy, Weibel-Palade bodies could be found in the endothelial cells. Although the patient received radiot ..................More
Disseminate and Recurrent Infundibulofolliculitis - A Case Repurt
Chang-Doo Tsai, Wen-Lin Lo, Chu-Kwan Wong
Dermatol Sinica 10: 35-39, 1992

Disseminate and recurrent infundibulofolliculitis was first reported by Hitch and Lund in 1968. Since then more than twenty cases had been published, most of them were young negroes. We herein report a 33-year-old healthy male with a recurrent, firm, skin-colored, follicular, papular eruption on neck and upper limbs. The histopathologic changes mainly involve the upper portions of the hair follicles. In view of the clinical and pathological findings, we diagnosed the case as disseminate and recu ..................More
Cheilitis Granulomatosa - A Monosymptomatic Form of Melkersson-Rosenthal Syndrome, A Case Report and Review of Literature
Young-Chuan Hsu, Mei-Eng Tu, Hsiu-Chin Chen, Hsu-Po Yeh
Dermatol Sinica 10: 41-47, 1992

Cheilitis granulomatosa is an uncommon inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology. A 52-year-old female patient had swelling over her lower lip for more than 7 months. Physical examination revealed fissures, reddish swollen change over the lower lip. A biopsy from the lower lip showed multiple noncaseous epithelioid granulomas with chronic inflammatory cell infiltration and edema in the dermis and subcutis. The patient received intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (20 mg/ml) injection three times ..................More
Letterer-Siwe Disease - A Case Report and Literature Review
Tsue-Rong Hwang, Hsiu-Chin Chen, Hsu-Po Yeh, Chun-Hsiang Chang
Dermatol Sinica 10: 49-56, 1992

A 2-month-old female infant had suffered from reddish-brown papules over the frontal area of the face, neck, diaper area, palms and soles for 2 weeks. Few of the rashes became crusted, or even hemorrhagic. Physical examination revealed hepatosplenomegaly and generalized lymph nodes enlargement. Light microscopic examination showed extensive infiltration of histiocytes which obscured the dermoepidermal junction and some of them invaded the epidermis. S-100 protein stain revealed positive reaction ..................More
Generalized Lichen Nitidus - A Case Report and Literature Review
Yi-Her Bio, Kuei-chu Liu, Ren-Fung Lee, Yuh-Chiau Chiang, Hsu-Po Yeh
Dermatol Sinica 10: 57-62, 1992

We report a case of generlized lichen nitidus, an uncommon disease as we know. An 8-year-old boy visited our clinic in December 1988 with 6-month history of flesh-colored papular eruptions, which began on the face and gradually spread to the whole body except palms, soles and scalp. The papules were discrete and not coalescent. Koebner's phenomenon was noted on the neck. Histopathologic examination showed each papule consisted of a circumscribed infiltrate closely attached to the lower surface o ..................More
FISH TANK GRANUROMA - A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Ton-Poi Lim, Huey-Maan Cheng, Sai-Foo Cheng
Dermatol Sinica 10: 63-70, 1992

We report a case if fish tank granuloma. The patient was a 38-year-old male with an erosion on the dorsum of his right middle finger. Mycobacterium marinum was isolated from the leson, tissue of the infected fish and water from the tank. The lesion resolved after a six-week course of oral minocycline(200mg/day). A detail history including occupation and hobby was an important hint for the diagnosis of fish tank granuloma. Because the pathologic changes were nonspecific, isolation of Mycobacteriu ..................More
