Hui-Chen Shih, Han-Nan Liu
Dermatol Sinica 21: 317-325, 2003

Abstract Pustular psoriasis is a rare but severe type of psorisis. Neutrophils accumulate in the epidermis and form massive sterile macroscopic pustules. We herein report 19 cases of generalized pustular psoriasis. The pustular lesions arose de novo in 5 patients. Among 50 episodes of attack, secondary bacterial infection of pustules was highly suspected in 3. Forty-five percent of patients showed hypoalbuminemia (14/31) while 52% disclosed hypocalcemia (14/27). Although 31% of patients reveale ..................More

Dyshidrosiform Pemphigoid~An analysis of 14 cases
Shu-Win Luo, Ming-Wei Lin, Ding-Dar Lee, Han-Nan Liu
Dermatol Sinica 21: 326-333, 2003

Dyshidrosiform pemphigoid is an uncommon form of localized pemphigoid presenting with a persistent vesicular eruptions of the palms and soles. The clinical manifestation could mimic a variety of skin diseases. Therefore, whenever patients present with severe, recurrent blisters on their palms and soles, especially in elderly patients with hemorrhagic lesions, dyshidrosiform pemphigoid should be considered. A correct diagnosis can not be made without a positive direct immunofluorescent finding. W ..................More

Dermatol Sinica 21: 344-352, 2003

Abstract Background: The incidence of sunscreen (photo)allergy is thought to be low in previous reports, but there is no large-scale, long-term study that documents its incidence in a Chinese-based population. Objective: To investigate the incidence of sunscreen (photo)allergy in a developing country with a Chinese-based population. Chun-Ming Lin, Ming-Jing Chen, Hsin-Chun Ho, Hong-Shang Hong
Dermatol Sinica 21: 353-360, 2003

ABSTRACT Dermatologist relies much on photograph images. Thus, saving and filing photograph images are very important. Traditionally, we take pictures of patient’s skin lesions with SLR (single light reflex) cameras and then save them as slides or photographs, which require considerable time and effort. However, as more functions of the digital cameras have been developed and as computers and Internet become more popular, we have more options. During this past year, we have been taking patien ..................More

Dermatol Sinica 21: 367-374, 2003

Abstract Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a rare non-Hodgkin掇 lymphoma. Primary systemic anaplastic lymphoma kinase-negative (ALK-) ALCL has a poor response to chemotherapy and an unfavorable prognosis in contrast with primary systemic ALK+ ALCL. We report a 93-year-old man presented with three dusky erythematous papules on left supraclavicular area and a rapidly enlarging erythematous tumor on left chest wall for about half a month. The histopathological examination showed a patchy a ..................More

We report herein an unusual case of lymphocutaneous phaeohyphomycosis caused by Veronaea botryosa, which to our knowledge is the first case report in Taiwan. An 81-year-old male with hypertension, chronic renal insufficiency, coronary heart disease and atrial fibrillation developed an ill-defined, dusky red, swelling plaque with a purulent discharge on his left dorsal foot for 3 months. Thereafter, several tender fluctuating erythematous papulonodules progressed upward along the lymphatics of ..................More

We report a 42-year-old man diagnosed as having peripheral T cell lymphoma, presenting an asymptomatic skin rash associated with transient, mild fever on day 18 of the conditioning chemotherapy with BEAM regimen and day 12 after autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation. Dermatol Sinica 21: 389-393, 2003

Lipodystrophia centrifugalis abdominalis infantilis (LCAI) is a rare and unique skin disorder exhibiting well-defined large depressed lesions surrounded by slightly erythematous border. Patients afflicted with this type of lipodystrophy have not been found to have associations with other systemic illnesses. Histological examination of the depressed region often reveals mild infiltration of lymphocytes and histiocytes in the subcutaneous fatty tissue. Only about 100 cases, mostly Japanese, have b ..................More

Rudimentary meningocele, a variant of primary cutaneous meningioma, is a rare embryologic malformation with meningeal tissue occurring in the skin. This work studied five cases of this condition. All five cases were congenital and presented as alopecic lesions on the occipital area. No underlying bony defect or communication to the intracranial compartment was detected by brain computed tomography (CT) or echoencephalogram. Histologically, the major changes were mostly concentrated in the subcut ..................More

Jung-Yi Chan, Chia-Yu Chu, Cheng-Hsiang Hsiao, Jau-Shiuh Chen
Dermatol Sinica 21: 402-407, 2003

Blastic natural killer(NK) cell lymphoma/leukemia is a rare NK cell malignancy of unknown etiology. It occurs in multiple sites and with a propensity for skin involvement. We report such a case in a 35-year-old male suffering from erythematous and purpuric papules and plaques on his face and trunk for 6 months. A biopsy specimen of the skin showed diffuse infiltration of blast-like lymphoid cells in the dermis and subcutis. Immunohistochemical study showed the tumor cells were only positive for ..................More
