The many faces of poroid neoplasms
Han-Nan Liu
Dermatol Sinica 24:181-189,2006

Dermatol Sinica 24:163-170,2006

Abstract Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an acquired autoimmune subepidermal blistering disease caused by autoantibodies against bullous pemphigoid antigen 1 (BPAg1, 230 kD) and bullous pemphigoid antigen 2 (BPAg2, 180 kD). It usually affects an elderly population. Recently, a novel commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) against the noncollagenous (NC) 16a domain of BP180 has been established and found to be extremely sensitive and specific. Up until now, the usefulness of BP180 ..................More

Dermatol Sinica 24:190-193,2006

Abstract Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) or von Recklinghausen neurofibromatosis is one of the most common autosomal dominant disorders in humans, primarily affecting cells of neural crest origin and resulting in developmental, pigmentary, and neoplastic abnormalities. NF1 affecting 1 in 3500 individuals and fully penetrant. Mutation detection is complex due to the large size of NF1gene, the presence of pseudogenes and the great variety of lesions. Here we presented a 20-year-old female patie ..................More
Panniculitis in Adult Onset Dermatomyositis-Report of Two Cases and Review of the Literature
Jen-Hsin Lin , Chia-Yu Chu , Ruey- Yi Lin
Dermatol Sinica 24:194-200,2006

Abstract Panniculitis is an exceedingly rarely reported clinical finding in dermatomyositis (DM) with a total of only 18 cases reported in the literature. Although panniculitis sometimes occurs during the course of connective tissue disease, it has most often been associated with lupus erythematosus rather than dermatomyositis. Because the reported cases are few, it is difficult to know the significance of this association. Here we report two additional cases of DM in whom clinically manifest ..................More

Dermatol Sinica 24:201-204,2006

Lipoatrophia semicircularis is a rare condition manifested by semicircularly horizontal depressions on the anterolateral aspects of the thighs. Most of the patients are females. Previous literature has shown that repeated external trauma is the most plausible explanation, though in some cases, no underlying traumatic mechanisms are found. We herein report a case of lipoatrophia semicircularis in a female patient who has noticed this condition for two months. The clinical history revealed repetit ..................More
Actinic Lichen Planus- A Case Report

Dermatol Sinica 24:205-208,2006

Actinic lichen planus is a variant of lichen planus that mostly affects young individuals with dark complexions of Middle Eastern origins. We herein report a 51-year-old woman with multiple itchy erythematous annular plaques and papules over her forehead, chin, neck, and the V area of the chest for 4 months that were unresponsive to topical corticosteroids. Histopathological findings exhibited the typical picture of lichen planus. The lesions improved dramatically after applying 0.1% tacrolimus ..................More

Epidermolytic Palmoplantar Keratoderma- Report of a Case and Review of the Literature
Yi-Lin Liu, Ming-Tzen Liu, Wen-Jen Wang
Dermatol Sinica 24:213-219,2006

Abstract Epidermolytic palmoplantar keratoderma, a rare autosomal dominant hereditary disease, is a keratinization disorder of palms and soles caused by mutation in the keratin 9 gene. Herein, we describe a 20 year-old male with hard, hyperkeratotic plaques on his palms and soles since his birth. Some members of the patient’s family were similarly affected and indicated an autosomal dominant trait of inheritance. The skin biopsy specimen showed the histologic features of epidermolytic h ..................More

Dermatol Sinica 24:220-223,2006

ABSTRACT Fox-Fordyce disease is a rare, pruritic disorder characterized by multiple flesh-colored follicular papules, usually affecting the apocrine gland-bearing areas of young women. The typical histopathologic features include a keratotic plug in the dilated follicular orifice and spongiosis of the infundibular epithelium. However, recently, another histopathologic observation has been reported, that of numerous foamy histiocytes in the peri-infundibular dermis. Patients with this xanthomato ..................More

Dermatol Sinica 24:224-225,2006

CASE REPORT A 47-year-old woman came to our dermatology clinic for longstanding erosive and crusting vesicles on her lower lip. The erosions began three years earlier and responded poorly to topical steroids. Dermatologic examination revealed rupturing vesicles arising from violaceous polygonal plaques over her lower lip with erosions, blood clots and crust formations. The lesions bled easily while we pulled the lower lip down for recording photos. (Fig.1a) Other parts of the oral mucosa ..................More

Dermatol Sinica 24:226-227,2006

CASE REPORT A 83-year-old male patient presented with pruritic red to brownish eruptions over bilateral groins and scrotum for many years. He was otherwise healthy. Physical examination revealed erythematous, hyperpigmented and hyperkeratotic patches on the bilateral groins and scrotum (Fig. 1). Potassium hydroxide preparations from the inguinal eruption scrapings were negative. A skin biopsy from a scaly patch on the left groin was performed. The histological findings showed hyperkerat ..................More
