Cutaneous manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) include butterfly rashes, discoid and vasculitic lesions. Periorbital edema and erythema occur frequently in cases of dermatomyositis but have rarely been noted in patients of SLE. We report an unusual case of SLE with the unilateral eyelid edema, erythema and lesions of discoid lupus erythematosus as the presenting skin manifestations. The eyelid edema and erythema were successfully controlled with hydroxychloroquine.
