Pigmented basal cell carcinoma is uncommon in Caucasian, but seems much more common in Asian. It is considered less aggressive than nonpigmented basal cell carcinoma, but the previous data is based on analysis of the very limited cases. We retrospectively reviewed pigmented basal cell carcinomas treated with Mohs micrographic surgery in Kaohsiung Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital from 1996 to 2002. Most histopathologic types were cleared at the first two stages of Mohs surgery, except micronodular type. Compared with previous literature, pigmented basal cell carcinoma is cleared in a narrower excisional margin. |
